Seven slates are running for Surrey city council 

There are seven slates running for city council in the upcoming October municipal elections, alongside a handful of independents. 

Council is comprised of nine people — one mayor and eight councillors. While there is no independent candidate running for mayor, there are several running for councillor. The full list of candidates for mayor and councillor can be found on the city’s website with some including a candidate biography and photo. 

The seven slates running are: 

• Surrey Connect 
• Surrey NOW
• Surrey First 
• Safe Surrey Coalition 
• Imagine Surrey 
• Conservative Party of Surrey 
• New Surrey+

Most of the parties are well established and have either run in previous elections or are led by mayoral candidates who have run for office before — except the New Surrey+ party. 

The party was formally registered in May, according to Election B.C. The mayoral candidate, Igal Ammons-II, has a biography on the city’s website, but most of the party’s candidates do not. 

The Citizen reached out to Surrey New+ for an interview to learn more about the party’s policies and plans if elected, however, the party responded by saying Ammons will only be available for an interview “in a couple of weeks.” As of publication time, the party does not  have a website or social media page explaining its platform.
