Surrey Citizen hosts election townhall on transit, affordability

It’s officially election season in Surrey and the Citizen has joined the conversation by hosting an election townhall event that will connect voters with the candidates.

The Citizen is partnering with Movement: Metro Vancouver Transit Riders for Transit & Affordability in Surrey on Oct. 8 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the City Centre Branch of the Surrey Libraries.

Representatives from the parties will be invited to explain their platform, goals and answer questions about key issues on transit and affordability. Independent candidates are welcome to attend the event and speak to community members, but due to format restrictions, they will not be able to participate in the debate. 

The event is free and non-partisan. 

Citizen journalist Chris Campbell will moderate the event. 

“Our goal is to give voters and candidates a chance to discuss issues that go beyond property tax rates and crime,” said Campbell. “Transit and housing affordability are issues that important to you, but often get drowned out by other topics. We’re excited to host this event and to partner once again with Movement.”
