Vehicle owners know all too well the costs involved with keeping your vehicle on the road.

Now imagine you are a non-profit with a fleet of vehicles.

Those costs really add up.

That’s why Options Community Services is so thankful to the new new owners of the Surrey Canadian Tire store in Newton. The owners, Ranjit Soman and Veena Ranjithave partnered with Options with a generous commitment to service the organization’s fleet of 19 vehicles.

OCS uses various cars and vans to support their community programs and services, transporting clients who are leveraging the organization’s various mental health, child care, homelessness supports, and programs for youth and adults with disabilities.

In addition to this valuable vehicle support, the Newton store owners have been stepping in with meals for those in need and seasonal donations for local children.

“When we moved to British Columbia, we wanted to support a local charitable organization providing various vital supports in the local community,” said Canadian Store Owner Ranjit Soman. “Options Community Services provides services to diverse community members with significant needs. We respect their work and well-established presence in the Surrey community.”

OCSsaid it is grateful for the generosity of the local store owners and their commitment to the organization as they continue supporting clients within the region south of the Fraser River. “This kind of generosity, coming from a place of authentic care for our local communities, makes all the difference in keeping the much-needed programs and services running and thriving as they are,” said Options Community Services CEO Neil Arao. “Especially in challenging economic times, we are grateful and honoured to have been chosen as a Canadian Tire philanthropic partner.”

Chris Campbell has devoted his working life to one area – community journalism.

“That’s where you feel the heartbeat of a community,” Campbell says.

That devotion has led to a journalism career spanning 35 years as a reporter and editor in places ranging from Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows to the upper Fraser Valley and all the way to Victoria — with stops in Surrey, Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster and the Tri-Cities along the way.

When he’s not obsessing over his beloved Boston Celtics or watching Goodfellas for the 100th time, Campbell is spending time with his adult daughter and travelling the world with his amazing partner.

Campbell says he’s excited to have joined Constellation Media to write for the Surrey Citizen and The Ridge outlets because of the entity’s commitment to mission-driven journalism, and to tell stories that people are talking about on a daily basis.

So if you have a story idea, just let him know.
